by Somekool on Saturday 23/Mar/2002, @09:25
KDE-Cafe cool ! i was so happy to see that news. but i get so disappointed to learn that KDE-Cafe is a mailling list.

we need an other news site. only one isnt enough for our big KDE project and all of us who addictly and unconditionally love KDE.

I need more news, everyday.

i need to parse avec news site to see if someone talk about KDE.

i want to know developpement evolution.

i want more of KDE in my life.

FreeKDE.org will return soon, so you'll have that extra news site.

If all goes smoothly freekde will be up in 2-4 weeks.

Of course, any number of things could go wrong... :-)

Well I am sure slashdot will be happy to publish any of Neil's rants about decisions made by KDE coders.

Yeah, they'd post the Opinions section, but they won't post Helpcenter, News, KDE Universe sections.

So I still need freekde back up.

Sorry, I can see how I built up your expectations and then killed it. I will update the article to make it clearer that we are talking about a mailing-list.

We definitely need more news here on the dot though. There are other sites like the upcoming freekde.org, gui-lords.org and pclinuxonline.com which often have KDE related stuff.

yeah ! as you said dot.kde.org need more news. and i will extand that by saying that it also need to be improoved.

i suggest that dotsy include a "Ask dotsy" just like Slashdot have.

user could then ask their questions about the kde project. for example i would like to know whats a kde release coordinator... i can imagine some of their jobs, but im not sure at all. if someone could answer whats is it, it could be interresting. I imagine someone saying what is needed to do, whats they do, and past and current release coordinator could add their comment about their feeling and experience.

another suggestion is a cvs history/commit parser.
a news section could be cvs news.... about which package change on theese day.
for people running cvs version,... its interresting to know whats its updated and when ;)

last suggestion... i wonder why dot.kde.org dont have a poll yet.

    thanks.

      Oh ! i forget one ....

if someone have time to :
browse news site, like linuxtoday, linux.com, gui-lords, slashdot,
zdnet, etc. to find out if someone talk about KDE.
it would be very cool if this work could be done by someone.

the dot need more news, and i think its the job to dot.kde.org to point us to the news.

and please.... dot.kde.org reader .... post what you see, what you hear, what you think.

      see ya

I agree. Mailing lists sucks.

Use the web so *I* can choose when I have time to read it or not!

It would also be interesting to try a good (streaming) chat system for this "Cafe". Maybe there will be a lot of discussion, maybe there won't but you don't know until you've tried. IRC is a bit too geeky, invites hoards of script-kiddies to break into you computer and can't be used from everywhere...

kde-cafe is also available via the news feed (news.uslinuxtraining.com, read-only). So you don't have to subscribe to the mailing list if you just want to read it from time to time.

I'm the admin of news.nl.linux.org, I can create one or more KDE newsgroups without trouble. It'll even be propagated to other servers (though not many have the nlo.* hierarchy yet).

The server is readonly, but you can get an account for free. Visit http://news.nl.linux.org for details
