You know MS still has the flying window, and Apple has....
These are not just Mascot, but identify the item. I suspect that in time, konqi will be similar to Tux and the daemon.

I do so love that dragon, though I also agree with the above mentions that it looks out of place... And as to the argument that it's what defines KDE as a corporate id thing, I think you'll find the gears to that ;)
