that's one of the things i really liked about the (admittedly small) LinuxFest Northwest this past weekend: companies weren't the focus, it was about the people and the projects. i think it makes a ton of sense to have such community-centric events to compliment the business-centric ones.

yeah i miss that here. we had a linux fest in chicago back in the late 90s that was a ton of fun. it was a bunch of linux hackers from uiuc as i remember. not to bash the guys who pay the bills, but its nice to not loose focus of why we all came here.
