Re: contributions
by Eric Laffoon on Monday 18/Oct/2004, @17:55
I have not been publicly posting this as of yet for several reasons. It would be additional effort to be complete and thorough and I would not want to mention specifics on any persons finances. That would include Andras and Michal, because I could also say "I could pay them more if only..." but that would mean I'd have to shoot myself for acting like a jerk. ;-)

Also I'm not sure I understand your question. Do you need specific disclosure or just to know if we still have a need. Another reason I am hesitant is that I really don't like crisis mentality... "The Quanta team is in crisis and needs your help..." because, well I just hate it. It sounds pathetic and it means that we wait until we have wasted time looking for solutions, lost sleep and developed ulcers. All of this is no good for either our development efforts or our personal lives. Operating from one specific need to the next becomes living in crisis, which I've had plenty of for one lifetime. Having contributors deciding whether to contribute base on whether we were in crisis would be stressful.

When we can set up a tax exempt non profit we will be required to disclose everything, but that's much different because we will be able to go after corporate entities who can get a tax break supporting software they use. Currently we have several team members receiving bank transfers as well as PayPal and e-gold. PayPal seems to have done something weird that makes it so I cannot accurately derive my fees by formula so this would be inaccurate without some work too. Disclosure is more fun when you have enough to disclose that you can be paid for the accounting work. ;-)
