Could this have something to do with the LGPL license? As far as I am concerned, the GPL seems cleverly designed, it protects the open source community.

With LGPL:d toolkits, it just seems to easy to take the big cake out of the open-source, and then outperform the same with economic muscles. They can eat the cake and still have it.
