Because the developer had an itch he wanted to scratch. Why should the developer need to justify his activities to you?

Maybe, maybe not. How this is relevant to Mailody is beyond me. Or are you sying that we should forbid developers from working on another apps, if there already exists a similar app? Related to this: have you already told Amarok-devels to stop working on Amarok, since we already have Juk? How about Kate/Kwrite/Kedit? Konsole/Yakuake? Kaffeine/Codeine/Kmplayer/etc.?

BTW. Shouting questions is quite rude.

If it doesn't work the way you'd like, then don't use it. Problem solved.
