openSUSE should adjust release schedule for 10.3
by WPosche on Wednesday 21/Mar/2007, @09:35
...to be released October 23rd. If they're now planning to release in September they could just as well wait another month and include KDE 4.0. That would be the best thing to have the new KDE already pre-installed.

Anyway, already looking forward to October. Thank you for your great work!!

Hopefully Kubuntu can be delayed long enough to put in KDE 4.0 as well. That, or they release a 7.10-kde4 or something.

The planning for Kubuntu is to release a KDE4-based version really soon after 4.0 is out. This will probably not be supported officially, though. Read https://wiki.kubuntu.org/KubuntuFeistyKde4Plan for the details about this plan.

That would be awesome! KDE 4 on openSUSE. They should make it the default desktop environment :D

You don't need to wait. You can it install it now:

Yes, it installs into /usr. And install kdebase-session and you can choose in kdm a "KDE 4" session.

Right. Then you remember that it's an estimated release date. It could happen sooner or later.

That sounds like a really bad idea. By that time they're had the alpha/beta releases, and RC's are coming up. At that point it's seriously stupid to change the entire desktop the users will see.

I rather hope they get a rock solid 10.3 release out with KDE 3.5.7, so they can focus all their resources on getting KDE4 running smoothly with 10.4 or 11.0.
