Just a quick question: is it possible to run a search for files/folders within Open/Save dialogs?

Sort of like Suse has integrated Beagle into Konqueror search field.

Yes, at least using KIOslaves. Maybe they will improve the dialog and make it more visible, though.

Nepomuk (under a new name, not sure which name will be the final name) and strigi should do this. However, they are not 100% implemented yet. This would be an ideal dialog to take advantage of searching features, especially for the Open dialog.

If you install the kio-locate IO slave, you can type locate: in all file dialogs. Of course you'll have to install and set up locate, not all distributions do this by default.
