Furthermore, from what I've seen from most gnome users I know, many if not most of the apps they use aren't even gnome specific, so changing desktop should be quite easy. Their main apps are Firefox, Thunderbird, OpenOffice and the like. Most use Amarok and some use K3b. Coders use Emacs and Vi. If the desktop environment KDE provides becomes more attractive to them, my guess is that they'd change in no time.

Oh, you mean that GNOME users, unlike KDE ones, aren't locked in to their desktop environment?
