I won't even get started on this, but suffice it to say that a few large searcg companies have assisted the Chinese government with the great Chinese firewall. Google and Yahoo, among others, have assisted these tyrannical governments in blocking access to things from within those countries. Do no evil, huh? If that's is the cost of doing business in those countries, then the cost is too high. People should always come first. Always. Not profit. People. After all, a search engine is built for people to use. Breaking or blocking search to please a sitting government is evil and shows you can be bought not only monitarily, but politically. Search engines exist to deliver search results only, not be gamed, bought, SEO'd, you-name-it.

As far as i know google has nothing to do with the great firewall. They have self-censored their chinese version of google to avoid being filtered by the great firewall. Can you explain why you think complete withdrawal from china would be a better choise?

Chris DiBona is great
Summer of Code is great
Investment in nano-solar is great

Google is a friend of Linux, they've also got our back in the patent wars vs MS. It's a lot harder for MS to bully us now.
