It's about the money. Free software has some difficulties generating revenue unless they have a sponsor. You know someone who feeds the coders, and sponsors events etc. It's symbiosis, keeps free software going, and promotes it to the public, and Google may even get some software for free. That's not really that bad, unless you want MS to completely take over the world, and Bill to be the next President.
