I think at some point, the free software community which was composed of mostly technically minded people, grew to accept more people.

And when, once upon a time, someone posting such inane drivel as the grandparent would have been flamed to death on the theme "it is opensource, you fucktard, if you are not happy, contribute, else shut up." are now only mildly rebuked.

And people come to their defence saying "Oh but why is criticism not accepted!".

Well, simply put, if you have a proper bugreport to make, do it. This form of criticism will be accepted. That makes you, to a small degree, a contributor.

Otherwise, you serve no purpose. Your existence is worth _nothing_ to the project. A project with one contributor and 0 users is alive. A project with a 1 000 000 users and no contributor is dead. Users are of no import whatsoever unless they contribute back.

The spread of a program is pointless unless it brings in more contributions.
