Regarding Kontact: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/UNSTABLE:/KDEPIM4.1onKDE4.0/
It allows you to use Kontact with a stable KDE 4.0.x release instead of using the UNSTABLE branch for everything.
It has a few quirks, but overall I found it to work quite well.
If you encounter bugs, post them to https://bugzilla.novell.com/ -- not KDE's Bugzilla because PIM4.1onKDE4.0 is not an official KDE branch. I included "KDEPIM4.1onKDE4.0" in the summary line of the bug reports I posted to make them easier to find.
