hi
suppose i am a ubuntu (gnome) user and i want to install amarok or dragon player, so in order to switch phonon backen i have to install systemsettings thus all the kde-worspace package (plasma and kwin)which obviously nonsense.
is this a packaging problem. or i am missing the obvious.

the phonon kcm comes with the library in kdelibs, kcmshell is in kdebase-runtime. runtime is required by any kde application to behave well (help browser, essential tools and kcms...). so there is no requirement to install workspace.
personally i'd like to see integration with the "native" control centers on other platforms for our kcms. this seems to be possible on windows, not sure how this will work on macos or gnome (i simply haven't looked =).

thanks really for the clarification, yeah gnome control center showing phonon kcm is neat, perhaps a freedesktop specification is needed here,
