SoftSand Plasma Theme 3 (Plasma Theme)

Sun, 2014/03/09 - 6:53pm
ThumbnailSoftSand Plasma Theme 3
(Plasma Theme)
This has to be installed manually.

Download from kdelook and place in. ~home/username/.kde/share/apps/desktop theme

This theme combines elements of Opaquity, and Glassified. Also uses KrayScale system tray icons.

I didnt just combine them though. I modified the colors and some aspects of the design. I really like how the panel turned out.

Place in ~home/username/.kde/share/apps/desktop theme

In the screenshot I am using Appmenu QML. It can be found on this site.

Ring Orange Package 1.00 (X11 Mouse Theme)

Sat, 2014/03/08 - 5:41am
ThumbnailRing Orange Package 1.00
(X11 Mouse Theme)
RingOrange Package is a X11 Mouse Themes Package, with 24, 32, 40, 48, 56 and 64 pixels.
This mouse theme is my Multisized RingO Mouse Theme, but as Package. I built it with Inkscape. Cursors are looking well in both dark and clear backgrounds.

I've added some symlinks to Steam, and everything needed for KDE, Xfce, GNOME and Unity. I have tested it under Cinnamon with Muffin, KDE with Kwin, Xfce, Gnome, and Unity and it works great.
I would change some things so you can expect updates. If you find any errors, please let me know in the comments section.

HOW TO INSTALL IT
  • 1- Locate the file "RingOxx.tar.gz" downloaded. It's probably in your Downloads folder.

  • 2- Right click on it and left click on "extract here". You will see the folder "RingOxx". This one must be one of six themes: RingO24, RingO32, RingO40, RingO48, RingO56 or RingO64, which are the themes to install: 24=24 pixels, 32=32 pixels, 40=40 pixels, 48=48 pixels, 56=56 pixels or 64=64 pixels.

  • 3- Move as root the theme folder to /usr/share/icons. Open a terminal as root and you can use the following command line, changing xx in RingOxx by 24, 32, 40, 48, 56 or 64
    Quote:
    mv Downloads/RingOxx /usr/share/icons/

  • ON KDE
  • 4- Change RingOxx cursor theme, with desktop setting tools.

  • 5- If you want to make it the default cursor and see this cursor theme on login screen KDM, you must edit as root the index.theme system file located in /usr/share/icons/default. Use next command:
    Quote:
    nano /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme

and then change the name present after of "=", sign to RingOxx

  • 6- Reboot.

  • ON GNOME or UNITY
  • 4- Now we choose a theme, by example RingOxx, writing the next command line in terminal:
    Quote:
    sudo ln -fs /usr/share/icons/RingOxx/cursor.theme /etc/alternatives/x-cursor-theme

  • 5- Select the cursor theme with MyUnity, gnome-tweak-tool, ubuntu-tweak or another Desktop Settings Tool.

  • 6- Reboot.

  • I hope you like them! Thanks.

this is a plasmoid for KDE. it can monitor cpu and nvidia video card temperatures for you recently. nvidia-smi command is run for detecting nvidia video card temperature, so if you\'d like to monitor it, you should make sure nvidia-smi command is in your path.
some machine's motherboard doesn't report cpu temperature to operating system and this plasmoid can not retrieve cpu temperature from acpi, in this situation, this plasmoid will try to read cpu temperature from sensors command, so you must have finished the sensors' configuration with sensors-detect command.
    installation:
  • download the file plasmoid-hwmon.plasmoid and save it to any directory you like.

  • run the following command to install this plasmoid:
    plasmapkg -i /path/to/plasmoid-hwmon.plasmoid

  • if you have already installed this plasmoid, run the following command to update this plasmoid:
plasmapkg -u /path/to/plasmoid-hwmon.plasmoid, then remove this plasmoid from panel and add it again.

  • TODO:

  • support ati video card temperature monitor.

  • add color configurations.

  • if you encounter any problem while using this plasmoid, you can check 'enable trace' in configuration window, then wait for about 9 seconds( 3 times of default update period), and then email this file '/tmp/net.ubuntudaily.hwmon.log' to me, of cource, you should also describe what's your problem.

    changelog:
    2014-03-07 feature:
(1). add a new configuration (bypass acpi) to help to retrieve cpu temperature directly from sensors command withou giving acpi a try.
(2). merge net.ubuntudaily.hwmon.trace.log and net.ubuntudaily.hwmon.info.log into net.ubuntudaily.hwmon.log, so from now on your should email net.ubuntudaily.hwmon.log to me for debug purpose.
2013-5-22 feature: you can see build time in the configuration window now
2013-5-22 fix: if there is never data from acpi datasource, try to retreive cpu temperature from sensors command
2013-5-21 fix:when failed to connect data source 'acpi/Thermal_Zone/0/Temperature', try to utilize sensors
2013-5-20 fix:some machine's motherboard can not provide cpu temperature to os,in this situation cpu temperature will be read from sensors' command
2013-5-20 fix:/run directory does not exist in some distros.in this situation temp data will be writen to /tmp

I've seeing that this theme has become it a very popular topic, so I decided to make some changes to improve it. I will appreciate any comments about this mouse theme.
I did it a lot of changes to improve it: please see them on Changelog section. It has new pointers and animations. I added some cursors symlinks needed to Steam, and all required for KDE and Gnome. I did it, for people who want to have the cursor always visible. Easy to see!

This theme has a lot modifications of DMZ theme. The modification idea is to put a yellow background to each DMZ cursors. You never will lose it sight. I changed the left_ptr_watch and watch cursor, and I added animations for them, you will can see, one of them, in the screenshot number two. Cursor is looking well in both dark and clear backgrounds. Win8E 0.11 (X11 Mouse Theme)

    Thu, 2014/03/06 - 3:36pm
    ThumbnailWin8E 0.11
    (X11 Mouse Theme)
For lovers of aero cursor theme Windows 8. I think a lot of people who are currently working in Linux, they have abandoned Windows, or they are working on both operating systems, for some reason. There will be some who miss the aero cursor theme, so I've decided to build this cursor theme. I have built it in multiple sizes for you to choose the preferred size.

Win8Enhanced is a X11 mouse theme multisized to 64, 56, 48, 40, 32, 24 and 16 pixels. I have tested it on KDE with Kwin, Xfce, also Gnome 2.x and it works great. I added it symlinks for some cursors required for Steam, and all required for KDE, Xfce, Gnome, and Unity

On Gnome 3.x or Unity I think doesn't works as I would want, because when the cursor size is changed, there are inconsistency only on the main cursor. The changed size will appear in few applications like firefox, but the default size (24 pixels) will stay in desktop and some other apps. I believe this may be a part of a bug of Compiz. Therefore, if you want to see it work well, you should choose the size of the cursor 24 pixels.

I decided to upload it, and after will go improving it. I would like change a few things so you can expect updates. If you find any bugs, please let me know in comments section.

    HOW TO INSTALL IT
  • 0- Download cursor pack

  • 1- Extract it as root to /usr/share/icons/, open a terminal as root and use next command:
    Quote:
    tar --directory=Downloads -zxf Downloads/160758-Win8E.tar.gz && mv Downloads/Win8E /usr/share/icons/

  • ON KDE v4.10.5
  • 2- Change cursor theme and choose the size cursor with desktop setting tools.

  • 3- If you want to make it the default cursor and see this cursor theme on login screen KDM, you must edit as root the index.theme system file located in /usr/share/icons/default, changing the name present after of "=", sign to Win8E. Use next command:
    Quote:
    nano /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme

  • 4- Save, close and reboot.

  • ON Xfce v4.10
  • 2- Launch the Settings Desktop Environment by clicking on Top Panel: Application Menu-->Settings Manager, then Settings window is opened; scroll down to section called "Other", you can see "Settings Editor", launch it and in the left panel of the window opened, scroll down to locate "xsettings", click it, now you can change the fields value CursorThemeName and CursorThemeSize, located in the right panel.

  • 3- You must edit and save as root the index.theme system file located in /usr/share/icons/default, changing the name present after of "=", sign to Win8E. Use next command:
    Quote:
    sudo mousepad /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme

  • 4- Edit or create the .Xdefaults personal configuration file, adding to the final, the next two lines, set your own size matching size defined in the step 2:
    Xcursor.theme: Win8E
    Xcursor.size: 24

    Quote:
    mousepad ~/.Xdefaults

  • 5 Save, close and reboot.

  • ON GNOME 3.x or UNITY
  • 2- To update the cursor theme: Search for and install Alternatives Configurator in Ubuntu Software Center.

  • 3- You must add the cursor theme Win8E, to the corresponding group of alternatives. Use next command:
    Quote:
    sudo update-alternatives --install /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme x-cursor-theme /usr/share/icons/Win8E/cursor.theme 30

  • 6- Use next Command, changing the default cursor size 24 pixels to your custom cursor size. Could also use 64, 56, 48, 40, 32, and 16 pixels. I recommend 24 pixels, to avoid the bug mentioned above.
    Quote:
    gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface cursor-size 24 && gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface cursor-theme Win8E

  • 7- Finally, create or edit the ~/.Xresources file using next command:
    Quote:
    gedit ~/.Xresources

Add the following two lines. Change 24 to match size defined in previous step:
