In this week's KDE Commit-Digest: Amarok 2 reached cue sheet feature parity with Amarok 1.4, a first draft of a playlist layout config editor, and various other improvements across Amarok. C# bindings for Phonon. Beginnings of an effort to deliver a working debugger for KDevelop 4.0. Write support added to kio_svn. A Kross scripting backend, and Postgres support is added to Kamala. An initial D-Bus interface added to parts of Marble. Further development work on KHotKeys and the LionMail widget. Text-to-speech support added to the Translatoid Plasmoid, and a new Plasma widget: Fortunoid (fortune quotes). Continued improvements to Sonnet and KWin. Progress on the Virtuoso backend for NEPOMUK. Basic support for importing for SVG patterns in Karbon. Work on porting KControl and Konversation to KDE 4. Initial import of the "Peg-E" game, a "Google data Akonadi resource", KDE 4 versions of the SLP KIO-slave and Filelight, and "plasma2jolie". The Nuvola iconset moves back to kdeartwork from an unmaintained state. Eigen 2.0.0 is tagged for release.

KDE Commit-Digest for 25th January 2009

In this week's KDE Commit-Digest: New Plasmoids: "LionMail", "Magnifying Glass", "Spacer", and the Javascript-based "Victory Calendar". Ability to exclude private/confidential events from printouts in KOrganizer. Support for sending files over the Skype protocol in Kopete. The Kepas tool can now send KNotes. Support for sending and receiving direct messages, and using secure HTTPS connections in choqoK. First simple version of a bookmarks tool added to Okteta. Start of work on a pure Qt version of KCachegrind: QCacheGrind. Support for matching "simple expressions" in KAlgebra. Various unfinished features temporarily removed from Parley for the KDE 4.2 release. The Kapman game is renamed "Granatier". Initial import of "Tote" (a tablet-based notebook application), and "Kamala" (astrology software). The milestone "Release 1" of the PIM suite student project is tagged. KDE 4.2.0 begins to be tagged in preparation for release.

KDevelop 4 Beta 1 Available

On behalf of the KDevelop team I am happy to announce that we have reached the next milestone on our way to a final release, KDevelop 4 Beta 1. We feel that KDevelop 4, although in no way feature complete, is now usable and stable enough to get first feedback from a somewhat wider audience. Being a beta there are of course still bugs and missing functionality, but we have excellent language support for C++, integration of the CMake buildsystem, subversion, git and even starts of Qt GUI designer integration.

In this week's KDE Commit-Digest: A new "Crystal Desktop Search" Plasmoid, allowing searching through NEPOMUK indexes (and MediaWiki-based websites). KBasic Brings BASIC to Qt World

KBasic is a new programming language similar to Visual Basic. It combines the best features of those tools and comes with built-in backward support for those tools as it is 100% syntax compatible to VB and QBasic. It is written with Qt making it entirely cross platform. The Full Version Professional Edition is available to download for KDE now. It follows the old Qt licencing of being GPL licenced for Free Software and commercially sold for proprietary software.

In this week's KDE Commit-Digest: More parts of the Oxygen-based "Air" visual identity enters KDE SVN in time for the KDE 4.2 release, including KDM background images. Better integration of the new "NetworkManager" Plasma applet with KWallet. Initial work on a new "Welcome" Plasmoid. Support for more units added to the "Conversion" runner in Plasma, including "pressure", "currency", and "energy".
