CA-Browser Forum Finalises Extended Validation Certificates

The CA-Browser forum, a group of leading Certificate Authorities and web browser developers, has approved the first version of Extended Validation certificates for use with web browser and other applications to certify a higher level of identity verification. This is a great step forward for security and trust on the web, and KDE is proud to have been a part of the process from the beginning to the end.

Yahoo! user interface blog hosts an interview video with Lars Knoll and George Staikos on KHTML and WebKit. The video features the history of Konqueror (first 10 minutes) as well as the current development situation (next 10 minutes), an outlook about the possible future and of course a short demo presenting Qt4-WebKit accessing the Yahoo! page and rendering it nicely (last 10 minutes). You need Flash to view the page - if you don't have Flash, read a short summary of the interview.
WebKit Ported to Qt 4

Today the KDE team announces a new project to re-synchronize our HTML engine,
KHTML, with the WebKit engine. Code named Unity, the project has so far focused on porting the WebKit engine to Qt 4 with minimal changes to the existing code-base. WebKit is a derivative of the KHTML engine developed by Apple Computer Inc.
KDE Interacting With the Browser Community

Recently I've been on a mission to raise awareness of KDE and Konqueror in the wider Internet community as well as prepare to make the KDE 4 web browser a top-tier secure application. As part of those ongoing efforts, I have been attending and participating in various workshops and conferences. Core KDE developer George Staikos recently hosted a meeting of the security developers from the leading web browsers. The aim was to come up with future plans to combat the security risks posed by phishing, ageing encryption ciphers and inconsistent SSL Certificate practise. The Case for Konqueror

SearchOpenSource.com has a short interview with David Brickner, author of Test Driving Linux: From Windows to Linux in 60 Seconds, about Konqueror. Brickner, who writes extensively about Konqueror in his new book, says malware, spyware and viruses have virtually no chance of penetrating machines through the open source browser and file manager. He talks about the security, multi-protocol support and comfort level that Konqueror provides for those coming over from Windows.
Next Generation KDE Technologies Ported to WebCore

After successfully using KHTML and KJS as cornerstone technologies to build their much praised Safari web browser, Apple engineers have now made the first steps to adopt the next generation of KDE's web technology into their WebCore rendering engine. Apple developer Eric Seidel was proud to announce the introduction of experimental SVG support into WebCore: "Over the last few months I ported KDE's new DOM architecture 'KDOM' as well as their Scaleable Vector Graphics (SVG) implementation 'KSVG2' and render tree library 'KCanvas' to WebCore."
Nokia Develops Browser Based on KHTML

In a press release today, Nokia announced a new web browser in the works for the Series 60 application platform. The interesting tidbit about the browser is that it is based on Apple's WebKit which is of course based on KDE's very own KHTML (wp) rendering engine. KDE is fully acknowledged in Nokia's announcement. Update: Roland Geisler, Head of Strategy for the Series 60 Browser at Nokia, wrote to the Konqueror mailing list.
