A new KDE 2 porting mailing list has been set up to help KDE 1 application authors port their software to the new APIs. Please subscribe if you are interested in porting your KDE 1 application to KDE 2 or if you want to help others with porting their applications. For those of you who like to stay on the bleeding edge, Rik Hemsley announced that he's officially checked in an 'audiocd:' kioslave. Provided you have the cdparanoia libraries installed, this will allow you to browse your audio CDs in Konqueror, and convert audio tracks (with error correction!) to wav format by simply dragging them to your desktop. Great stuff! Hooks for CDDB support have been included, but the actual code has yet to be written.

John Califf wrote in to tell us that, "Krayon (also known as Kimageshop) is alive and well and under active development now." Read below about the status of this important KOffice component. Linux Journal´s editorial Board announced recently the list of winners for the second annual LJ´s Editor Choice Award. KDE wins the Best Desktop Environment category. Notice that this is different from LJ´s Reader Choice Award that KDE won earlier this year.

The KDE Team today announced its collaboration with industry leaders to
form the KDE League. The League will focus on facilitating the promotion,
distribution and development of KDE, with the goal of establishing KDE
as a desktop standard for PCs, workstations and mobile devices. The
League will not be involved in KDE development.

I'm in the process of improving the Kasbar taskbar replacement, and as there
seems to be a fair degree of interest I thought I'd outline what I've done so
far and my plans. My first aim (which I have nearly achieved) was to ensure
that Kasbar had all the features of the standard taskbar, but I have quite a
bit more in mind...
