LinuxMCE Partners with KDE for New Release

Thursday, 16 August 2007
When picking a media center solution for your PC, it tends to be a matter of compromise. There are solutions that are visually attractive, solutions that are Free/open source software, solutions that are more complete than others and solutions that integrate well with a desktop environment. In the past there have been few, if any, that have been all of these things. After an extensive beta testing period a new version of LinuxMCE, release 0704, was recently made available to the public that shows how we can indeed have our media center cake and eat it too. Read on for details of this release and future plans for KDE integration. Read More

A Fireside Chat on KDE Usability

Wednesday, 9 February 2005
Recently, our very own Fabrice Mous asked if I might write an article about usability and KDE development. At first I was hesitant, and not just because I have a lot more hacking to get done before KDE 3.4 is released (which is soon). I often get asked about usability and the Open Source process, and even I sometimes get tired of having the same old conversations over and over. I thought that this time it would be refreshing to ask someone else these questions and see what they had to say. So I arranged to meet up with several people on IRC who are involved in software usability and the KDE project. Here's what ensued... Read More

A message consistently received from those users has been that KDE's usability could be better. While the need for greater usability is not unique to KDE, what is unique is our ability to directly and positively affect the usability processes in KDE via the same Open Source methods that have been at the core of its success. KC KDE Needs A New Editor

Saturday, 27 April 2002
After 36 issues and over 300 mailing list thread summaries, I have decided to take a semi-permanent break as editor of the Kernel Cousin KDE project. KC KDE was taking up quite a bit of my available time outside of work and family and, as enjoyable as it was to put KC KDE together, I have had to reprioritize things a bit. It would be a shame to see KC KDE simply go away forever, though. If anyone is interested in taking up the role of editor, I would be more than happy to get them started and co-edit the first few issues until they are confident and comfortable with the process.
