APPEAL Meeting: Springtime in Berlin

A group of KDE contributors converged on Berlin, Germany for five days at the end of March to collaborate on a variety of KDE related projects. The scope was broad and included artwork, human interface guidelines, Tenor (a contextual linkage engine), alternatives to traditional file managers and groupware applications. Graciously sponsored by Novell with additional support from basysKom, credativ and Relevantive, this group of individuals came from as far away as Canada and from as near by as 15 minutes across town.

A new issue of the series "Application of the Month" has been released. It covers an application from the KDE PIM suite called KPilot. Besides the application review we interviewed its current maintainer Adriaan de Groot. KPilot is a replacement for the Palm Desktop software from Palm Inc, which makes your Palm/Palm Pilot/Visor handheld capable of exchanging information with your KDE powered computer. HP Delivers KDE on Laptops

Hewlett-Packard made quite a splash when they announced that they are
offering Linux on the nx5000, one of the latest HP laptop models. HP also sponsored aKademy, the KDE Community World Summit as a Platinum
sponsor. This included a loan of 24 laptops for usage in the tutorial rooms
as well as a special deal for KDE contributors to buy the nx5000 model at a
reduced price. The aKademy press team arranged a meeting with Thomas Schneller, Manager Software R&D and asked him about this venture from HP.

At aKademy we got really cool hardware from transtec to accelerate the development by shortening compiling times with icecream.
We did some quality tests for Debian and rebuild all Sarge packages with 2 blades (Intel Xeon based systems) from transtec and sponsored HP notebooks which were on daily use in the tutorials and worked 2 days compiling Sarge.

at aKademy and was said by participants to be extremely successful.
The most notable thing was that amongst all participants there was a good spirit of cooperation and

The Conference of KDE Developers and Contributors finished a few days ago, and we are now happy to announce a collection of reports, videos, slides and notes from presentations, as well as plenty of photo galleries from those attending the KDE World Summit - aKademy. There are full reports on day one (Saturday) and day two (Sunday) on Newsforge. You can also find transcripts and slides from many of the talks on the schedule (thanks go to Jonathan Riddell for the transcripts). The video stream archives can be found here, courtesy of Fluendo. Attendees have also started to add their photo albums to this wiki page. Those attending aKademy are invited to add notes to this wiki page, their photos to the other wiki page, and speakers are asked to send their slides to the press team with the word "press" in the subject of your email.
