Thomas Diehl has created a new language project branch for a Plattdüütsch (Low Saxon) translation of KDE (ISO code: nds). The language is spoken in Northern Germany, the Netherlands and even in parts of the Mennonite Community in the United States and Paraguay. There are several millions of Plattdüütsch speakers, but Low Saxon -- stuck in the middle of German, English (Anglo-Saxons!) and Dutch -- is on the decline in favour of official languages such as German or Dutch. In a background article Aryan Ameri and Arash Zeini (KDE Farsi) explain the benefits of FLOSS (Free Libre Open Source Software) for Iran and developing countries. For a trade show Knoppix 3.1 was modified in order to demonstrate KDE in Farsi language. Overall an estimated 100 million people speak this language. With the release of KDE 3.1 in January 2003, Farsi became an official language in KDE. KDE looks very interesting in Persian. Read More
