Desktop Presentation at Linux User & Developer Expo 2004

Friday, 2 April 2004
Just a quick note to let you know that I will be doing a presentation about the potential for Linux as a desktop platform at this year's Linux User & Developer Expo in London on April 20th from 15:25 - 15:55. The talk is entitled "Linux as a viable desktop platform" and I will be covering a number of subjects to do with desktop Linux, of which KDE plays a big part. I will also be discussing GNOME, FreeDesktop.org, Project Utopia and other technologies in the presentation. For more details have a look at the Linux User & Developer Conference website and get in touch with me if you have any questions. I hope to see some of you there. :) Read More

Last week I launched a call for help when the KDE booth at the LinuxUser & Developer Expo 2003 dropped in my lap. I have written a report of the events leading up to and happening at the expo. It was a good expo, and KDE fared well there. Expect more pictures to be online soon. Read More

KDE::Enterprise: Interview with TrustCommerce

Friday, 8 February 2002
I have added another interview to KDE::Enterprise, this time with Adam Wiggins from TrustCommerce. Adam recently wrote a report on their use of Open Source and KDE, and this interview was a chance to further explore the issue. "It's simple: KDE makes the UNIX desktop usable for non-IT workers. If it wasn't for KDE, we'd have to pay a lot of money for proprietary hardware (Apple) or software (Microsoft). More importantly, the machines are more stable and easier for our sysadmin to maintain. [...] I'd like to see a distribution that is entirely based around KDE. All configuration is done through the KDE control panel, and the system is designed from the ground up to never, ever need to access it at the shell level." Read More

KDE::Enterprise: KDE At Conectiva

Saturday, 19 January 2002
I have just added another interview to KDE::Enterprise, this time with popular Latin America Linux distributor Conectiva. The interview has some nice insights, covering their use of KDE, what their customers want, and their wide-range success in deploying KDE. "Our employees range from Linux gurus to people who have very little computer experience like lawyers, accountants and personal secretaries. They all use Linux here and almost all use KDE by default, since we believe it is the best desktop for people to learn how to use. I really believe that our employees are the evidence that Linux is really not hard to use." Read More

SecureONE and KDE In The Business

Thursday, 1 November 2001
I have just added our second interview with a business to KDE::Enterprise. This time the focus is on Internet security company SecureONE, who tell us just why they have chosen to use KDE on their Red Hat workstations. "Our understanding of KDE's backend technologies helps us appreciate the framework and end-user interface even more. The ability to drag and drop between pretty much all applications, common dialogs, etc.... makes it a more usable desktop for our users. " Read More
