Calligra Gemini Added to Calligra Suite

Friday, 21 November 2014
About a year ago, the Calligra community added a new application to the suite by the name of Krita Gemini, which combined the functionality of the Krita digital painting application with the touch optimised user interface of the tablet focused Krita Sketch, into a shell with the ability to switch between the two at runtime. The goal was to create a responsive user interface for Krita, and this is now a part of Calligra. In May of this year, Intel approached the team which produced Krita Gemini with the idea of doing the same for other parts of Calligra, by creating an application which would encapsulate the Words and Stage components in the same way as Krita Gemini did for the Krita component. Over the last couple of years it has become almost a tradition to have a Gluon sprint prior to Qt Developer Days in Munich. This year was not different. Through much effort, a sprint was pulled together for the Gluon team, in part commemorating the first of these sprints two years ago, where the Gluon Vision was first laid down, and in part to assist in the work towards the next release.

Bring Your KDE Application to the Masses with Bretzn

Monday, 31 January 2011

Bringing things together...
Apart from being a tasty Bavarian bread-snack, Bretzn is the code-name for a collection of technology aimed at solving a problem which has existed in software development for a very long time: How do you get your applications to your users?

This is particularly a question for the many developers of KDE applications that are not part of KDE's six monthly Software Compilation releases. These developers must either provide binaries for a range of distributions themselves or hope that distribution volunteers will do the packaging for them.

KDE and Ovi Hold First Collaborative Sprint

Saturday, 20 November 2010

KDE and Ovi Sprint attendees
The weekend before Qt Developer Days 2010 in Munich, Nokia invited thirteen members of the KDE community to get together in their offices in that same city for a developer sprint. The topic was Ovi and KDE, specifically how they can work together to widen adoption for both communities, both from a software development perspective and from a purely collaborative effort perspective. The developers were also invited to the main Qt Developer Days (DevDays) event too.

Ovi? What's that?

In addition to being the Finnish word for "door", Ovi is Nokia's service offering. Thus, rather than just being an app store or a mapping tool, it encompasses all of the services which Nokia offer. Depending on the country, you will find any number of services:

Gluon empowers the creators of games and the players of games
Gluon empowers everybody: From the creators of games to the players of games, and back again

Those who have been following Gluon closely over the last months know that at the developer sprint in Munich in October 2009 the foundations were laid down for the Gluon vision. Put simply, Gluon provides a new way for game creators to make games and distribute them to the players of games. This was all written down in what is now The Gluon Vision on the Gluon wiki.

Community Members Invited To Qt Developer Days 2009

Saturday, 19 September 2009
The last few years has seen the company formerly known as Trolltech open their arms to one of the largest parts of their supporting community, KDE, in a new way: By offering a few members of the KDE community free admittance to the Qt Developer Days conference. This year is no different, and they have invited a number of people to attend this year's conferences. Yes, that's plural: There are two conferences. One from the 12th to 14th of October in Munich, Germany and one from the 2nd to the 4th of November in San Francisco, USA. Read More
