KDE Libs Hackers to Meet for KDE Four Core

In another event in the series of meetings leading to the KDE 4.0 release, the developers of the core libraries will meet in the Norwegian woods (this bird has flown) from July 1st to July 7th. This meeting, co-sponsored by Trolltech and SUSE, is labelled KDE Four Core, as it is intended to be the direct successor of the KDE Three Beta and KDE Three meetings, that led to the refining of KDE releases 2.0 and 3.0 respectively. But, unlike those, this meeting is only one in a series of "KDE Four" meetings, that started with KDE Four Multimedia.

Google Summer of Code 2006: The Contestents Are At The Starting Line!

KDE is happy to announce the selection of 24 student applications for the Google Summer of Code 2006. This year, Google received a total of 6400 applications worldwide spread across 102 different Open Source organisations. "It looks like we've got some very interesting projects for KDE as a whole, and a good number of projects for KOffice", said Boudewijn Rempt, the maintainer for Krita, celebrating the selection of 4 KOffice student proposals. "We spent over 3 hours debating the final list of projects on Sunday evening, but we're confident our selection is solid", commented Cornelius Schumacher, the KDE e.V. vice-president who will act as a mentor for one of the 3 KDE PIM projects. The list is completed by 3 KDevelop projects, 2 Kopete ones, one for KHTML/KJS and 11 others in various areas of KDE.

KDE and digiKam Receive TUX 2005 Readers' Choice Award

With its Issue #6, TUX Magazine published the winners of its first annual Readers' Choice Awards, placing KDE in the first place in the "Favorite Desktop Environment" category and digiKam first in the "Favorite Digital Photo Management Tool".

The KDE Project and Google announce the 24 KDE projects selected for the
"Summer of Code" project. The lucky students and the KDE e.V. will receive a
total of $120,000 if they can complete their projects in the allotted two
months.

Google Summer of Code: Results In

After reviewing the list of submissions, Google has released this morning the final list of Summer of Code proposals they have accepted. Out of 8000+ entries, 410 were selected and KDE proponents were awarded 24 out of those which equals $120,000 of support for KDE technology. The KDE Project congratulates all those who got accepted and calls upon those who didn't to join the project anyways. KDE will certainly benefit from this experience, and wishes all the participants good luck. Stay tuned for more information later, including the accepted project list.

KDE Gains Support for International Domain Names

Konqueror and the KDE base libraries in CVS now support domain names written with names outside the usual strict 7-bit ASCII letters. This means that one can now register and access domain names written in proper letters for almost all languages in the planet, not just English. Konqueror is among the first browsers to support this new technology, developed in cooperation with VeriSign which has also been cooperating with the Safari and Mozilla teams (Mozilla IDN announcement and explanation).
