Trolltech to Extend Dual Licensing to Qt for Windows
Monday, 7 February 2005
Trolltech, maker of the Qt toolkit which forms the basis for KDE,
announced today that the Qt version for Microsoft Windows will be available under the GPL in addition to its current commercial license offerings for that platform. This change will take place with the release of Qt 4. The Qt version for Linux has been available under a similar dual licensing scheme for several years already. The availability of a GPL'ed Qt for Microsoft Windows will make it much easier to distribute KDE applications that run on the Microsoft Windows platform.

was issued today for
a vulnerability in Konqueror's handling of Java applets.
The issue was reported to
security@kde.org by
heise Security after a report of
a similar vulnerability in the Opera web browser. All versions of KDE up to KDE 3.3.1 inclusive are affected. KDE 3.3.2 is not affected.

Security: Konqueror Cross-Domain Cookie Injection

security advisory has been issued for a cross-domain cookie injection vulnerability. The vulnerability is limited to hosts under certain country specific domains such as the British .ltd.uk domain and the Indian .firm.in domain. KDE 3.3 already contains a fix for this issue.

The first advisory concerns the unsafe handling of KDE's temporary directory in certain circumstances.
The second advisory relates to the unsafe creation of temporary files by KDE 3.2.x's
dcopserver.

KDE CVS Server Gets Memory Boost

KDE's main
CVS
server received a memory upgrade today bringing its total memory to 2.5 GB RAM. The CVS server forms the heart of KDE's technical infrastructure and is responsible for providing KDE developers world wide with up to date versions of the KDE software. Due to the increasing number of KDE developers and KDE hosted projects the previous configuration reached its limits. With the new memory we expect to be able to provide reliable operation for quite some time to come. The memory upgrade has been financed from

kdenonbeta Official Clean Up: Where will your code go?

kdenonbeta is KDE's source repository for code that is not ready yet to be included in KDE's beta releases. It can be considered a nursing ground for new software. Unfortunately not all software reaches adolescence.

KDE 3.1.5 Released

Dirk Mueller released today
KDE 3.1.5, the latest and final release in the KDE 3.1 series.
The release was triggered by a
security issue
that was discovered in the VCF file information reader.
The ChangeLog lists the other fixes contained in this release.
KDE 3.2 is expected to be released early February.
