Antialiased Konqueror!

Tuesday, 5 December 2000
Keith Packard, member of the XFree86 Core Team and author of the highly anticipated Render extension for X, posted an exciting screenshot Sunday to kde-devel: Konqueror displaying kde.org using antialiased text! Unfortunately the code is not ready for general use, but Keith offered a rough patch for Qt to set things in motion. Matthias Ettrich (along with many other enthusiastic core developers) expressed interest, and mentioned Keith's code may be included as soon as Qt version 2.2.3. You can read the full discussion on kde-devel, starting with Keith's initial announcement, here. Read More

AudioCD KIOSlave Debut

For those of you who like to stay on the bleeding edge, Rik Hemsley announced that he's officially checked in an 'audiocd:' kioslave. Great stuff! Hooks for CDDB support have been included, but the actual code has yet to be written. Read More

People Behind KDE: Waldo Bastian

Monday, 9 October 2000
In this latest installment of The People Behind KDE, Tink brings us an interview with her very own Waldo Bastian, core developer extraordinaire. "It must have been around the last beta-release before KDE 1.0 that I upgraded my libc only to discover that that broke netscape. In search for a working browser I came across KFM, the file manager of KDE, and was surprised to see that it could show quite some web-pages and was faster than netscape. Unfortunately it crashed a lot as well." Read More
