Organisation of Camp KDE 2009 is now moving at full speed and the event website is now active. The organisers are now releasing a Call For Presentations (CFP) and a Call For Sponsorship (CFS). Camp KDE 2009 was recently announced on the Dot and will be held in Negril, Jamaica from January 17-23, 2009. We are excited to continue the momentum of KDE interest shown at the 2008 KDE 4.0 Release Event in California. This new conference will be held at the Travellers Beach Resort in Negril. Read More

When the event was celebrated by a packed house, we realised that there was a strong demand for KDE events in the Americas. ZDNet reports on a recent German Linux migration by the tax authority in Lower Saxony which has made the decision to migrate an impressive 12,000 desktops to SuSE Linux using KDE. The project, which is now in process converting 300 desktops daily, moves systems from Solaris x86 version 8, which the organisation has been running since 2002. The migrations are reported as going well thus far. KDE's Kiosk desktop customisation, source code access and licensing costs were cited as key reasons for the decision. Late December the KOffice team announced a design competition for KOffice 2. A prize of $1000 USD will be given to the best entry as determined by a panel of judges. The deadline for submissions is now only 2 weeks away. Several quality proposals have been submitted, but there is always room for more. So if you have been considering an entry until now, please read the guidelines for objectives, submission formats and examples. For those already working on entries, please review entry requirements and make sure to meet the deadline. The KDE Marketing Working Group has formed, after being proposed by the KDE community at aKademy 2005, with the aim of improving KDE's marketing and promotion efforts. Martijn Klingens, Sebastian Kügler and Wade Olson will be taking the lead in coordinating and implementing new practices, such as promoting releases more widely and running more exciting events booths. An initial charter has been created and approved by KDE e.V with the long-term goal of "coherent and strategic messaging around KDE". The group is currently focused on establishing infrastructure and prioritizing tasks. Read More
