KDE Reaches New Audiences in North America

Desktop Summit 2011 Announced

KDE e.V. and GNOME Foundation to Co-Host 2011 Desktop Summit in Berlin

GNOME and KDE are teaming up again to host the 2011 Desktop Summit in Berlin, Germany. Due to the success of the 2009 Desktop Summit the projects will co-locate GUADEC and Akademy once again in August, 2011 for the largest free software desktop event ever.

Successful KDE Finances Sprint Held

On April 23rd, developers from various finance-related KDE applications gathered in Eschborn, near Frankfurt, Germany for the first ever KDE Finance Sprint. The fellowship was composed of developers from KMyMoney, Kraft and Skrooge. This was a week after the ash cloud stopped all flights over Europe. Until the last minute, it was not clear whether those who were coming by plane would be able to make it. Fortunately, the airports opened just in time. Read on for a report for the meeting.


Last Days at Akademy 2010

Unfortunately, all good things come to an end. Friday was the last day at Akademy and by the evening a few people had already gone. Others were sitting at Demola, scattered around the place or chatting in small groups. And some decided to stay at TOAS and use the public spaces there for hacking and talking. Planet KDE Goes International

During Akademy the promo team discussed the idea to have localized Planets in different languages. The same day, Planet Master Jonathan Riddell jumped on it right away, and already the Planet in Spanish is online.

Georg Greve on KDE and the Supporting Membership Program

At LinuxTag 2010, the KDE community announced the "Join the Game" campaign to support KDE e.V.'s Supporting Membership Program. The first new member was Georg Greve, founder of Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE). We caught up with him for a 'short' interview that turned into a two hour conversation about life, the universe and everything. The pertinent bits are excerpted below.
