Trolltech releases localization tool

Trolltech has released a preview version of Qt Linguist - an application translation system under the open source BSD license.

"Qt Linguist, localization tool, allows users to seamlessly convert Qt-based programs from one language to another, simply and intelligently. Qt Linguist helps with the translation of all visible text in a program, to and from any language supported by Unicode and the target platforms. A key feature in Qt Linguist is a specialized editing tool, with many features to help the translators be more productive and get better results."

You can read the press release here and you can download it here. Could someone provide some screenshots please?

Does Linguist have anything in it that KBabel might want to integrate?

Anything that can help the translators work more efficiently is very good for KDE.

wow! this tool is rather terrific.

i'm not using tmake .pro files for the project i'm working on, rather GNU ./configure && make, but it is STILL a breeze to use!

thank YOU trolls!

btw, i've attatched a small screenshot =)

How does this differ from KTranslator/GTranslator and GNU Gettext?

Is this actually useful for KDE ? It seems to use different format for i18n texts than KDE.

Can anybody reply to the last question?
Is Linguist really useful for KDE?

Better ask at [email protected], I suppose.

For the time being, the Linguist is of no real use to KDE translation. It's based on another file format and featurewise it is seriously underpowered compared to KBabel.
