Successful KDE Finances Sprint Held

Thursday, 15 July 2010  |  Gdebure
On April 23rd, developers from various finance-related KDE applications gathered in Eschborn, near Frankfurt, Germany for the first ever KDE Finance Sprint. The fellowship was composed of developers from KMyMoney, Kraft and Skrooge. This was a week after the ash cloud stopped all flights over Europe. Until the last minute, it was not clear whether those who were coming by plane would be able to make it. Fortunately, the airports opened just in time. Read on for a report for the meeting. Akademy is barely over, but tech news sites and mainstream publications are already reporting on events in Tampere.

DistroWatch on Nokia's Akademy Keynote

Popular Linux and BSD distribution tracking website DistroWatch has a report on Nokia's keynote presentation at this year's Akademy conference. The report covers the views of Valtteri Halla (Nokia's Director of MeeGo Software) on how MeeGo will succeed by working with communities such as KDE. It also reports on how KDE's Plasma framework shares many goals with MeeGo, particularly the use of a single codeset across many applications and has news of early ports of KDE software to mobile devices.

Last Days at Akademy 2010

Sunday, 11 July 2010  |  Jospoortvliet
Unfortunately, all good things come to an end. Friday was the last day at Akademy and by the evening a few people had already gone. Others were sitting at Demola, scattered around the place or chatting in small groups. Others decided to stay at TOAS, the larger accommodation for many community members and use the public spaces there for hacking and talking. As usual, everyone was tired from a week of hard work and hard play. Read More

During Akademy the promo team discussed the idea to have localized Planets in different languages. The same day, Planet Master Jonathan Riddell jumped on it right away, and already the Planet in Spanish is online.

Blogs from various Spanish speaking bloggers and KDE contributors are aggregated there. Everyone interested in what is going on in the Spanish language KDE community can visit the site where you can also find an RSS-feed for easy syndication.

Thursday, 8 July 2010  |  Sebas
While many KDE developers are enjoying, contemplating, hacking, discussing, designing, planning and promoting KDE's trinity of software products (The Plasma Desktop, the Application Suite and the Development Platform), the release team also found some time to make another release candidate available. 4.5 RC2 is now available in source form from KDE's FTP servers for everybody to give a test run. There is still some time to fix last minute bugs, so please help us by reporting them, so we can make this a smooth release.
