Submissions for the Plasma Javascript Jam Session closed at the end of March and the judging commenced, with the community joining the judging panel as a collective "5th member". Every Plasmoid that was submitted was a success and a joy to try out: congratulations to all of those who participated.

Grantlee version 0.1.0 has been released by the Grantlee team. For those not in the know, Django is a high-level Python Web framework. It can be used to develop websites, and offers numerous features to make such a task easier.

In early March Stuart Jarvis wrote an article published here on the Dot which announced the winners of the poll results for suitable KDE software labels. Since then work has begun on coming up with suitable logos for these labels. This work is still underway and in need of volunteers if you have time and artistic skills.

Starting July 3rd 2010, hundreds of KDE community members, employees of companies working with us and many other Free Software enthusiasts will gather at Tampere, Finland. There, at the University of Tampere, the annual Akademy summit 2010 will take place. For a full week, Tampere will be the place where stunning new technology is demonstrated, hundreds of prominent Free Software contributors walk the corridors and new plans for the future of the Free Desktop emerge.

The Plasma Javascript Jam Session is a friendly competition that aims to reward creators of original, interesting and beautiful Plasma widgets written in Javascript with some great prizes and community recognition. The competion concluded on March 31st with 11 successful submissions making the deadline. Judging has commenced, and it will not be easy: many excellent submissions were sent in ranging from the entertaining to the highly useful. Ranging in size from a few dozen lines to a few thousand lines of Javascript code, the submissions showcase a variety of ideas and possibilities.

The team was showing off Plasma Desktop and a prototype of the Plasma Netbook workspace. There were four new volunteers who did a great job representing KDE for the first time - Jonathan Prien, Wayne Speir, Aaron Reichman, and Barrington Daltrey. A special mention goes also to Gary Greene, who shipped out the KDE booth box for use at SCALE. Aaron Johnson gave a talk "A Basic Introduction to KDE", attended by about thirty people, that was well recieved.

Today, the KDE team brings you another update to the 4.4.0 development platform, applications and workspaces. Several bugs, some of them crashers have been fixed, so 4.4.2 will feel nicely stable. As usual, the monthly updates do not contain new features, but concentrate on updated translations and bugfixes. KDE SC 4.4.2 is a recommended update for everyone using KDE SC 4.4.1 or earlier versions. Some distributions are providing packages already, others will follow shortly. The changelog has some, but not all fixes that have gone into KDE SC 4.4.2. Information how the source packages can be found is available on the info page corresponding to this release.

Today is Ada Lovelace Day - a day to celebrate the achievements of women in science and technology. KDE has always been very welcoming and diverse with a comparatively large number of female contributors among free software communities. For today, let's focus on the great work women do every day throughout KDE to help make it awesome.
