KDE Gears Up to a Free Cloud

Day 2 of Camp KDE kicked off with a bang when Frank Karlitschek announced the start of a significant new KDE project. The ownCloud initiative will complement the Social Desktop and Get Hot New Stuff efforts which are already dealing with social and collaborative data. Like those, the ownCloud initiative strives to combine the rich desktop interfaces made possible by the Qt and KDE libraries with the large amount of social information and data users are putting online. TiltOS Introduces KDE Applications For Haiku

KDE applications on Haiku
Continuing the theme of "KDE Everywhere", recently it was announced by the folks over at TiltOS that KDE applications are now available for download and use. TiltOS provides a repository and an easy to use application manager for the Haiku operating system, which is in turn aims to be an open source implementation of the BeOS operating system. The available applications include:

kchmviewer, kdeaccessibility, kdeadmin, kdebase, kdeedu, kdegames, kdegraphics, kdelibs, kdelibs-experimental, kdemultimedia, kdenetwork, kdepim, kdepimlibs, kdepim-runtime, kdesdk, kdetoys, kdeutils, kdevplatform, kdewebdev, kdiff3, koffice and many others packages. In all there are about 150 applications ready to run.

KOffice Based Office Viewer Launched for Nokia N900

An alpha version of Office Viewer has been uploaded to the repositories for the N900. Users of Nokia's smart phone can install the KOffice based app to view word processing documents, spreadsheets and presentation. The application can also be used to give presentations. "This shows both how portable and lean on resources KOffice is" says Inge Wallin, the marketing coordinator of KOffice, "we hope and believe that this is only the first port of KOffice to other mobile devices.

Annual Osnabrück PIM Meeting Brings Exciting Announcements and Ambitious Plans

On the second weekend in January the 8th incarnation of the annual KDE PIM meeting in Osnabrück, Northern Germany, took place. This meeting has a longer history than any other regular KDE contributor event. As in all previous years, the meeting was hosted by Intevation GmbH. Up to 20 contributors followed an agenda of discussing design, marketing, attracting new developers, tools to assist and monitor progress, and the present and future of KDE PIM. Read More
