The Krita donation drive has succeeded beyond the expectations of the Krita developers. Donations from all over the world made it possible to buy two Intuos graphics tablets and two art pens for the Krita developers to test their software with. The Krita developers are very grateful to the community for making this possible. The Intuos tablets and art pens make it possible to develop brushes and tools that make use of advanced features such as tilt and rotation for Krita 2.0.

In this week's KDE Commit-Digest: Resurgent development work on KDevelop 4, with work on code parsing, code completion and the user interface. Support for converting the KVTML XML-based format to HTML in KDE-Edu. Support for the much-wanted feature of multiple album root paths in Digikam. Various continued developments in Amarok 2. Multiple additional comic sources for the Plasma Comic applet. Support for Kopete plugins written in Python, Ruby, JavaScript and other supported languages through the Kross scripting framework. A simple command-line application for playing media supported by Phonon. WavPack, TrueAudio and Speex format support added to the TagLib support library used by JuK and Amarok. Audio device work (utilising Solid) in KMix. Work begins on KsCD by a team of French students. Various optimisations in Plasma and Dolphin, amongst other applications. okular moves to a shared FreeDesktop.org library for PostScript format support. KGhostView finally removed in favour of okular for KDE 4.0. Code for supporting Apple OS X Dashboard applets via WebKit imported into playground (not for KDE 4.0!)

On October 27th, KDE Italia attended the Italian Linux Day 2007 in Rome at the Tor Vergata University. Other cities had their Linux Day throughout Italy at the same time. For the people that have never attended to these kind of events, it is important to remember that the Italian Linux Day is a day dedicated to spreading Free and Open Source Software and specially the GNU/Linux Operating System and its software components such as KDE. The talks for the day were at different levels of difficulty and you could find widely accessible talks or talks for an expert audience with more technical and specific topics.

Our conference in Spain, Akademy-es, will be held in Zaragoza this year on the 17th and 18th November. We have a very interesting schedule with talks about CMake, KOffice, KDE programming, KDE 4 among other interesting topics. Of course, entry to the talks is free, only limited by physical space. KOffice, the office suite built on KDE technology and in the KDE Communtiy has recently
gotten a lot of press, but is still often underrepresented. In this interview, some key KOffice developers tell us about the recent progress of KDE's Office suite, about Open Standards and how KOffice plays an active role in bringing Freedom to users. We have talked to Boudewijn Rempt, developer of Krita, core KOffice contributor and KOffice release manager, as well as to David Faure who has been taking part in the OASIS, the organization that is responsible for advancing the OpenDocument (ODF) standard.

The KDE Community is happy to release the
fourth Beta for KDE 4.0. This Beta aimed at further polishing of
the KDE codebase and we would love to start receiving feedback from
testers. At the same time, a Release Candidate for the KDE 4.0 Development Platform is released. This Development Platform contains the bits and pieces needed to run and build applications using KDE 4 technology. The purpose of this Development Platform is to make it easier for third parties to port their applications to KDE 4, without having to wait until the full desktop is polished enough for the final 4.0 release.

Work on the foundations of KChart 2 in KOffice. Lancelot and Raptor develop as alternatives to the Kickoff menu of KDE 4.0. Okteta, a planned successor to KHexEdit, uploaded to playground/utils. KOffice 1.9.95 and KDE 4.0 Beta 4/KDE Platform RC1 are tagged for future release.
