Thursday at aKademy 2007 will be our Bonny Banks Day Trip. A chance to get out from infront of your computer, we will be taking the short journey to Loch Lomond. Use this as a chance to socialise and discuss KDE matters without the distraction of the internet. Take your pick from walking along the shores or in the forest, taking the ferry out to expore the island or just sitting about having a coffee in the village, but be back in time for the barbeque on the beach. Last weekend was not only the time for the KMail Hacking Days but also for the second Akonadi· Hacking Meeting in Berlin, Germany. 7 KDE-PIM developers came together for 2 days at the KDAB offices in Berlin's Kreuzberg district and continued to improve Akonadi, the personal information data storage for KDE 4. Meeting the other developers in real life and discussing issues face to face always helps to find new solutions and implement crucial features in a short period of time. Read More

The Road to KDE 4: Solid Brings Hardware Configuration and Control to KDE

One of the many new technologies for KDE 4 is the often mentioned, but seldom explained Solid hardware API. Hardware has always been a bit of an annoying element of using Linux and other UNIX-like operating systems, but Solid hopes to fix that for KDE 4. In many ways, Solid is like Phonon, in that it's a Qt/KDE style API around already existing components at the lower level, such as freedesktop.org's HAL. In this week's KDE Commit-Digest: A week-long Phonon/Solid developer sprint redefines and strengthens their API's. The start of a command-line client for Strigi. Continued improvements in the Konsole refactoring work. More work on visual effects in the KWin window manager composite support branch. Experiments to utilise Solid for connection management in Mailody. Initial support for the Jamendo music service in Amarok. A KDE frontend for Marble is begun, to complement the Qt-based original interface. LSkat, KLines and KLettres get support for scalable graphics. SuperKaramba now supports widgets written in Python and Ruby using Kross - Kross is now the default scripting engine for SuperKaramba. Kiriki is moved from playground/games to the kdegames module. The Guidance utility suite is moved to the extragear module, becoming the first non-C++ application in KDE SVN. Read More

Kubuntu 7.04, development codename "The Feisty Fawn", was released today. Free CDs are available through ShipIt. Kubuntu prides itself on working towards the perfect KDE GNU/Linux solution, and with this latest release the development team worked harder than ever to do just this. 7.04 includes many updates, new features, and the latest releases of your favorite applications.
