In this week's KDE Commit-Digest: The KDE World Conference, Akademy 2006, kicks off in Dublin. A rewritten version of KTurtle, an educational programming tool, is imported into KDE SVN. ThreadWeaver is moved into kdelibs. Hebrew sounds are added to KLettres to add learning support for the language. Improvements in the OpenDocument format and XML Paper Specification format support in okular. Support for GPS metadata synchronisation in kipiplugins, on which Digikam and KPhotoAlbum depend. Support for calculations containing non-integer numbers (ie. numbers with decimal points) in the minicli (Alt-F2). Modifications made to support using Compiz as a window manager. More work in Memory Monitoring and Network Management in Solid. Read More

aKademy 2006 Kicked Off

aKademy 2006 has been kicked off at the Trinity College in Dublin. The first two days consist of the contributors conference with a fully packed programme of presentations on aspects such as the community, KDE 4, cross-desktop collaboration and KDE & the Free Desktop in Asian countries. On Monday, members of the KDE e.V., KDE's legal body will hold their General Assembly. From Tuesday to Saturday will be the time to work -- mostly on KDE 4 -- and to team up for BoF sessions to discuss all kinds of issues in person. Read the official announcement for full details. Local Groups BoF at aKademy 2006

This year at aKademy 2006 there will be a BoF section to discuss KDE local groups. The issue will be how to spread KDE in your own country, helping each other and finding more to help in future. The starting point of the BoF will be the KDE Italia experience and then the experiences of all the groups will be put together to make sure we spread KDE all around the world.
