KDE at LinuxTag 2005: First Day Impressions

The annual KDE show at LinuxTag has begun already. With talks about KCall and 'KDE: 3, 2, 1!', users had a great chance to learn about existing and new features of KDE. The booth was crowded as always. We were visited by politicians, entrepreneurs interested in deploying the Kiosk framework on Internet terminals, and for tomorrow a guided tour for pupils is planned so they can learn about how to effectively use their new desktop in school - which is KDE. KDE to Demo at Montréal's Copyright and You Day

KDE will be present at the Droit D'auteur et Vous event in Montréal (Québec) on July 3rd. The event is to promote Free Software and Richard Stallman will be giving a talk on copyright. There is an expo for LUGs and other organisations where KDE has booked a stall to show off the latest KDE & KOffice and to hand out limited edition Kubuntu CDs. Interviews on KPDF Usability Work

Kolab 2 Groupware Released

After two years of hard work, the Kolab Groupware Project has released Kolab 2. It allows for sharing of personal folders, calendars and contacts and comes with improved spam and anti-virus capabilities. With Kolab 2 installation is now an easy two-step process, and the admin web interface has many improvements. KDE recently started supplying Kolab for its contributors. KDE Kontact is the project's official groupware client on GNU/Linux and Unix derivates. Read More

Linux and KDE Provide Rugged Desktops in Uganda, Africa

Inveneo, a San Francisco non-profit, together with ActionAid, an international agency whose aim is to fight poverty worldwide, have installed their first rugged Linux desktop systems in western Uganda. The systems run Linux and KDE desktops, and also include the OpenOffice.org productivity suite. Read More
