The Kexi Team have announced the availability of Kexi 0.9, codenamed "Shorthorn", the newest release of the integrated environment for managing data. Changes include official support for database forms, many improvements in handling server databases. For user convenience, Tabular Data View's behaviour is now very similar to Form Data View's behaviour. Data and project migration from existing data sources (SQLite, MySQL, PostgreSQL) is supported, and import of Microsoft Access database files (MDB) is available as optional plugin. By providing a central contact point and source of information in form of an open Wiki the developers want to promote their work and embrace users and developers from both Open Source as well as commercial environments.

This year I was invited to attend the 6th edition of the International Free Software Forum in
Porto Alegre/RS, Brazil, which I could attend with the help of the organizing committee and our generous sponsor Carlos Leonhard Woelz, the man behind the KDE Quality Team. The forum is the biggest open source/free software forum in Latin America, and it has more and more visitors each year. There were more than 3000 registered in advance participants and with well known names from the free software community like Eric S. Raymond, John "maddog" Hall, Randal L. Schwartz, Marcello Tosatti and others, including the LinuxChix.
