KDE has joined Google's Summer of Code programme. If you are a student looking to get into KDE development this is the perfect opportunity. We have a list of rules and suggested projects. The deadline is soon, June 14th, for a completed proposal and you will probably need a week of communication first to ensure a good proposal for Google, so move quickly. Read More

KOffice 1.4 Release Candidate Announced

The KDE Project today announced the release of the KOffice 1.4 Release Candidate. If nothing disastrous is found in this release, it will be renamed and become KOffice 1.4. A Live-CD has been created so that you can try out KOffice 1.4 RC without having to commit your hard disc to it. There are currently no binaries available for download of the release candidate. Dutch Agency Equips 200 Users With NX-based KDE Desktops

Last weekend at Annahoeve in Achtmaal the Dutch Refugee Council of Midden Gelderland announced that they succesfully completed a pilot where they migrated 100 machines and 200 users using NX technology and the KDE desktop. Jasper van der Marel held a presentation during the Dutch KDE-PIM meeting where he explained how the current setup was done. Read More

KDE 3.4.1 Released

KDE 3.4.1 has been released. This is the first translation and bugfix release to the 3.4 series, it includes all security updates to date, numerous minor fixes and improved translations including a new Greek translation pack. See the 3.4.1 Release Announcement for full details and the Changelog for a full list of updates. If you want to test out KDE 3.4.1 we have a new version of the Klax Live CD. Packages are currently available for Conectiva Linux and Kubuntu, see the 3.4.1 Info Page for how to download. Packages for SuSE are currently being uploaded and will be available soon. If you want to compile the sources yourself try using Konstruct which has been updated for this new release. Read More

KDE Project Offers Kolab Groupware Services to its Contributors

At the Dutch KDE-PIM meeting in Annahoeve last weekend it was announced that the KDE project will offer groupware services to all KDE contributors using the Free Software groupware server Kolab2. This means that every KDE project or contributor can get a Kolab2 account for sharing tasks, appointments, contacts and email. Every project can manage their own groupware services and decide with which users they want to share these resources. The Kolab2 server will run under the kdemail.net domain and will be administered by the KDE project. Read More

Daniel Molkentin, from the beautiful city of Königswinter in Germany, is one of the maintainers of Kontact and has also been involved in many other parts of KDE. He is one of the developers visiting the NL-PIM meeting this weekend. This meeting, sponsored by NLnet, Trolltech, NLUUG and many more companies, will allow Daniel and the other KDE-PIM developers to get together to further improve the KDE-PIM applications and framework.
