iDEFENSE identified a vulnerability in the Opera Web Browser that could allow remote attackers to create or truncate arbitrary files. The KDE team has found that similar vulnerabilities exists in KDE.

The People Behind KDE is going on summer recess. Lubos Lunak asked recently on kde-core-devel what to do with a little wishlist item filed against KWin. It's a nice entry, well described, and he even has some ideas about how to implement it --- but he also believes that he could spend his time better by teaching someone to implement it rather than do it himself. Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he eats for a lifetime.

KolourPaint is progressing nicely as the latest version brings new icons by Kristof Borrey, a new user manual and numerous bug fixes and improvements.

While browsing at KDE-Look I noticed this howto for making native KWin decorations. Now there are no more excuses for not writing that decoration you always wished someone else would do!

As part of the April 2004 issue of the "Application of the month" series on KDE.de, Andreas C. Diekmann has interviewed Scott Wheeler, author of Juk, an audio jukebox for KDE. Despite the downtime of the Dutch KDE website they are now offering an English translation of the interview as well as the overview of this issue for your reading pleasure.

The organizing committee would like to announce the Desktop Developers' Conference in Ottawa, Canada, July 19-20th 2004, the two days preceding the Ottawa Linux Symposium.

The Desktop Developers' Conference is targeted at those developers who are contributing to the development of Free Desktop environments, application integration, and free operating system infrastructure intended to improve the desktop user experience.

On May 10th, ICS presented a Qt Developer Conference in Waltham, Massachusetts. Over 100 developers were on hand to hear presentations from Havaard Nord (TrollTech CEO), Jasmin Blanchette (TrollTech uber-developer) and Matthias Kalle Dalheimer (Klarälvdalens Datakonsult CEO).
