Interview: Konqi meets Lindows CEO Michael Robertson

Wednesday, 24 December 2003  |  Fmous
You might know Lindows as the company behind an aggressively marketed OS based on Linux and KDE. Indeed, LindowsOS is shipped on certain Wal-Mart PC offerings and the company has won huge contracts for LindowsOS machine deployments. You might also know Lindows as a sponsor of the ever popular KDE-Look.org community site. Well, Lindows was in the Netherlands on Dec 8th to show its support in a situation where a certain large software powerhouse has apparently been attempting to intimidate local LindowsOS resellers. Sure enough, KDE Dot News took the chance to meet Michael Robertson for an interview and chat about KDE and Lindows. Wait a minute. Was that Konqi in one of those pictures? Read More

KDE received a pleasant surprise this week when an anonymous well-wisher donated $1000 to KDE e.V. On behalf of everyone in the KDE community we would hereby like to thank our generous friend. KDE-NL was present at "Linux-Bijeenkomst 2003" at Tiel, Netherlands. We have published a small bilingual impression of that day and, included as a bonus, is a small IRC snippet where we discuss some usability issues with Aaron Seigo, chief commander of the KDE Usability Project. Read More

New KDE Theme Manager + Beautifying OOo, Mozilla and Evolution

Monday, 22 December 2003  |  Numanee
Datschge pointed me at some interesting work by Rohit "kol" Kaul on KDE-Look.org. Complementing the recent efforts at KDE'fying OpenOffice.org is an icon theme generator as well as an accompanying static theme. The screenshots are very interesting, if anything. In addition, kol has done the same work on Evolution in a nice little showdown with Kontact. Also, who needs Keramikzilla when we got Konqueror? But there you go... we got it all. By the way, you might want to browse a few more screenshots of Sodipodi flaunting KDE integration -- some Karbon shots in there too. The pieces of the integration and assimilation puzzle are falling into place quite nicely! Read More

If you can still get your hands on a copy of Trouw from last Friday, you might be thrilled to find half of page 16 dedicated to an interview with KDE contributors Charles Samuels, Rob Kaper and, myself, Fabrice Mous. The three of us met in The Hague with Vincent Dekker and the result is a long article in the Dutch newspaper. A translation of the article follows with the permission of the paper. Read More

Saturday, 20 December 2003  |  Kpfeifle
ITBusiness.ca has an interesting success story about how LinuxMagic switched FitnessWorld to Linux and KDE. Although the article does not mention KDE, we know they are using KDE thanks to this KDE Success Story that was submitted to KDE::Enterprise. LinuxMagic is one the sponsors of the KDE for the Enterprise initiative that was recently launched by KDE and Debian developers. If you too have a KDE Success Story to share with the world you can submit it via the KDE::Enterprise website. Read More
