K3b 0.10: DVD Burning for KDE

Well, the basic news is quite short: K3b is now able to burn DVDs. But this would be a little too short. ;) So for all of you who do not know what K3b is (the name does not really mean anything): K3b is (was) a CD burning application for KDE (screenshots). It uses cdrecord and cdrdao for actually burning the CDs but implements its own methods for all CD information retrieval functionality.

Atlantik will adopt KSVG to render game boards. KSVG, KDE's implementation of the Scalable Vector Graphics specification, will be included in KDE 3.2, adding support for a growing technology. KSVG has been maturing in the kdenonbeta development module for a long while and the enthusiasm of the developers is spreading to other parts of KDE. Atlantik, the leading open-source game client for Monopoly-like board games, is one of the first KDE applications slated to adopt KSVG for more than fancy icons.

KDE Traffic #66 Part 2 Released

KDE Traffic #66 Part 2 has now been released on zork.net. (The backup site is still available, but is now intended for experimentation and mirroring.) This traffic contains news on KPovModeler, the kdesupport module, Konqueror (what issue would be complete without it?), KMail, KPaint and last but not least, giant pink fluffy bunnies. OK, nix the bunnies, but it's still a decent issue. Look for issue #67 to be released shortly.

In its November 2003 issue, Linux Magazine publishes several KDE related articles of which two are also available online in PDF format. The first, titled "There's an aim called 3.2" looks back on the KDE Contributor Conference and asks again several developers what they really accomplished during the hack fest. In "Boost your efficiency" Scott Wheeler describes how you can easily write scripts which use DCOP to control your KDE desktop and help you save much work.
