In this week's CVS digest: The KWin rewrite has been merged into mainline KDE. Optimizations in KABC, the address book framework, and the Konqueror listview. QtRuby gains support for KDE classes. KJSEmbed, a JavaScript implementation for KDE, now has SQL database bindings. Plus a large number of bugfixes.

The KDE Project announced KDE 3.1.4 today. It's the fourth maintenance release of the successful KDE 3.1.x series and ships with many bugfixes and improved translations. KDE 3.1.4 also contains two fixes for security issues in KDM. Users of KDE 3.x are advised to upgrade to KDE 3.1.4. KSVG has recently been moved to the kdegraphics module, meaning that KSVG will now be part of the KDE 3.2 release. KSVG aims to be a full flavored implementation of the W3C SVG standard. Some of you will think of icons when we speak of SVG but SVG is much more: It is a web technology with full ECMAScript/DOM support. With the number of SVG powered sites growing steadily, Konqueror will soon be able to display these sites with a high-quality and open-source viewer. KSVG is fully integrated into the KDE framework and can be used in your applications as a KPart, enabling you to add support for vector graphics quite easily. In this week's CVS digest: KJSEmbed, the KDE JavaScript implementation now supports event handlers. KDevelop adds support for code completion databases. Kexi now has a PostgreSQL driver. Kopete integrates with KAddressBook for IM contacts. The KWin rewrite continues with an added window decoration API. Plus many bugfixes throughout.

I've finally managed to get the last bits of the KDE 3.2 Alpha 1 (codenamed "Brokenboring") including KDevelop 3.0 Alpha 6 on the ftp server. The mirrors should soon pick it up.

There won't be any binary packages for this release because the KDE "Pi" release is coming out soon. Everyone using Brokenboring is asked to compile it with --enable-debug, so that we can get valuable feedback. There is a new unstable version of Konstruct also available to install it.

KDE Traffic #64 has been released, with lots of news articles about KDatePicker, iCalendar, OpenOffice integration in KDE, the software patent fracas, a neat little devices applet for Kicker, a private extension for DCOP, and of course, a nice treat at the end. Get it at the usual place.

KDE Traffic #63 was released this week with news about cookie problems, discussion about Cut and Copy entries in the context menu of Konqueror, usability of the Kicker window list, the proposed move of kpdf from kdenonbeta to kdegraphics and more. Read the full report at the KDE Traffic site.

As announced on the KDE PIM site, we are featuring a preview of the upcoming KAddressBook 3.2 in the form of some annotated screenshots taken from the CVS version. KAddressBook 3.2 will be included in the KDE 3.2 release.

In this week's Digest: It's been a very busy week. Some new applications: Knot, a service location server, Kickme, a lightweight DCOP messenger and event viewer, an LDAP kioslave, KWiFiManager, for monitoring wireless cards, the new Plastik widget style, an SNMP plugin for KSim. aRts adds Media Application Server output support. KDevelop adds Haskell and Mozilla XUL language support. KStars supports electrical telescope focusers. Security fixes for KDM. KAddressBook has phone calling support. Spell checking support in KOffice is complete, and improved elsewhere. The KitchenSync plugin is added to Kontact. KOrganizer printing system is improved. Safari render_layer code is ported to KHTML. More new CrystalSVG icons. Improvements for running KDE on laptops. And a huge number of bugfixes.
