KDE-CVS-Digest for January 31, 2003

Is the 3.1 the ultimate in KDE? The end of development? Judging by the 2000 or so
commits this week, it wouldn't appear so. Some of the less trivial fixes from Apple are getting applied to
Konqueror. The user interface continues to be refined. The KDE PIM project and all of its individual parts are a beehive of
activity. Utilities such as K3b and CD Bake Oven are being actively worked on.
Read all about it in this week's KDE-CVS-Digest. I'm already impatient for 3.2!

Adopt-a-Geek: Put Old Hardware to Good Use!
Monday, 27 January 2003
|
Swheeler
There are a lot of KDE developers out there that are students, inbetween jobs or otherwise deprived of monetary resources. Many of these folks overwork their underpowered computing setups to help bring you an outstanding Open Source desktop. There are also appreciative users that are willing to donate obsolete hardware to help the KDE project. In order to bring both parties together and thereby increase the productivity of these KDE developers, I have started the KDE Adopt-a-Geek program. If this sounds interesting to you -- either as a developer or donor -- don't hesitate to contact me.

Interview with Shamyl Zakariya on SlicKer development
Sunday, 19 January 2003
|
Binner
tinyminds.org is featuring an interview with Shamyl Zakariya on the development of SlicKer, an alternative to KDE's Kicker panel. "SlicKer intends to provide similar functionality [as Kicker], but in a more modular, task based kind of approach; one "card" per logical function. There will be a kmenu card, a taskbar card, a system tray etc card, and so on." Conceptual drawings and a first actual screenshot are available. "I can honestly say that I'll be releasing an alpha for CardDesk in a month or two. When I say alpha, I mean feature complete, but not necessarily API stable or for that matter, stable (as in, not crashing)".
