Just as another year is passing by and summer is on its way, KDE Brazil gathered and fled south, just like migratory birds. Dragons are like birds, you know? Konqi the KDE Dragon is a little bigger than a bird, but he still has wings. We all had a common destination in this trip, the beautiful Itaipu, the biggest water-powered power plant in the Americas. (It used to be the biggest in the world, but a bigger one was built in Asia last year.)

While not as traditional as the annual KDE PIM meeting in Osnabrück near the beginning of each year, a second meeting around October/November is starting to become a tradition of its own. Similar to last year and in contrast to the Osnabrück meetings—which usually focuses on discussing ideas and planning—this year's October sprint again concentrated on improvements to existing features.

Bilbao will host Akademy 2013 from the 13th to 19th of July next year.

Kaixo KDE!

Lots of Basque words include K: Kaixo (hello), teKnologiaK (technologies), Kalitatea (quality), BerriKuntza (innovation), asKatasuna (freedom), Kultura (culture), Kidetasuna (fellowship), Komunitatea (community), esKuluze (generous), etorKizuna (future), eusKera (Basque language). The letter K is at home in Euskal Herria (Basque Country). 

KDE has released the third stable version of Plasma Active, KDE's device-independent mobile user experience. The Plasma Active user interface is touch-friendly and works well across a range of devices. It is designed for personalized productivity, a complete mobile experience right from the first start-up.

Today, KDE celebrated its 16th birthday. On October 14, 1996, Matthias Ettrich started KDE. Since then, amazing women have helped make KDE what it is today. Women like Anne-Marie Mahfouf, Eva Brucherseifer, Alexandra Leisse, Celeste Lyn Paul, Anne Wilson, Claire Lotion, Lydia Pintscher, Myriam Schweingruber, Claudia Rauch and many many more. Women have shaped both KDE code and KDE community.

“From the hacking rooms, we hear the whistle of the train as it travels up and down the Matter Valley. Most of us arrived on that train, and soon will be leaving. Another amazing mass KDE sprint is coming to an end, and again a lot has been accomplished.”
