The Amarok team members are enthusiastic about sharing their plans for a bright future and accomplishments over the past year. This month they are celebrating 10 years of Amarok and asking for financial assistance to continue their great work.

In the last twelve months, the Amarok team has made over 1100 commits and closed more than 1030 bugs. Besides making quality improvements, they released 2 new major versions of Amarok, updated the Amarok Handbook, attended conferences and had a big developer sprint in Switzerland along with much of the KDE Multimedia team. There were 5 successful Google Summer of Code projects and contributions to the Google Code-in. There is now a fully supported Windows version of Amarok that can be downloaded from the Amarok wiki. The KDE Manifesto

Monday, 8 October 2012  |  Jospoortvliet
"We are a community of technologists, designers, writers and advocates who work to ensure freedom for all people through our software."

Since it began more than 15 years ago, the international KDE community has grown bigger and more diverse than could have been imagined at the beginning. These forces created a need for clarity about what pulls us together as a community. Over the last six months or so, we have examined this critical issue, moving beyond assumptions and what has been taken for granted. In a rigorous project led by Kévin Ottens, many thoughts were distilled down to essentials. Today, we present the result of that effort: the KDE Manifesto.

KDE Celebrates 2012 Google Summer of Code Success

Wednesday, 3 October 2012  |  Stuart Jarvis

KDE has again taken part in Google Summer of Code (GSoC) as its biggest participating organization. Fifty-nine out of mind-boggling sixty projects have been completed successfully. Lots of new things have been learned, lots of code has been written and there's been plenty of fun. GSoC is over but the code has not gone away and the work is not finished. Over the next months, many of the students will continue to be part of KDE, integrate the code for future releases, improve it, maintain it, become more part of KDE. For now, however, pencils are down and we congratulate the students. It was a great summer and we enjoyed having you around!

KDE Ships October Updates to Plasma Workspaces, Applications and Platform

Tuesday, 2 October 2012  |  Sebas
Today KDE released updates for its Workspaces, Applications, and Development Platform. These updates are the second in a series of monthly stabilization updates to the 4.9 series. 4.9.2 updates bring many bugfixes and translation updates on top of the latest edition in the 4.9 series and are recommended updates for everyone running 4.9.1 or earlier versions. As the release only contains bugfixes and translation updates, it will be a safe and pleasant update for everyone. KDE’s software is already translated into more than 55 languages, with more to come.

Significant bugfixes include improvements to the Kontact Suite, bugfixes in Dolphin, Plasma and many more corrections and performance improvements all over the place. KDE's development platform has received a number of updates which affect multiple applications. The changes are listed on Bugzilla.
