The DesktopSummit 2011 team is pleased to announce the Intel AppUp^SM Application Lab: MeeGo Series. The session will take place at the Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany as part of the Desktop Summit. Intel® is the Platinum Sponsor of the Desktop Summit.

Today, KDE has released a second release candidate of the upcoming 4.7 release of the Plasma Desktop and Netbook workspaces, the KDE Applications and the KDE Frameworks, which is planned for July 27, 2011. With API, dependency and feature freezes in place, the KDE team's focus is now on fixing last-minute showstopper bugs and finishing translation and documentation that comes along with the releases.

In this week's KDE Commit-Digest:

• In Calligra, CMYK color support in Krita, improvements in Web widget of Kexi, updated RTF support and bugfixes
• Multiple improvements in Public Transport Widget, including a new filter structure and the possibility to highlight a stop
• Addition of development mode for system tray, DMS query optimization and other changes in Nepomuk
• Addition of manual creation of plain text emails in KDE-PIM
• Amarok now compiles with Clang
• Marble sees memory optimization in offline maps and GSoC work
• Fixes in font display, non-local URLs and other changes, removal of the last OpenGL code from kwineffects and fixes in global shortcuts in KDE's Plasma Workspaces
• Fixes in KMail, KAlarm, KDE-PIM, Juk, Amarok, NetworkManagement, and KDevelop.

KDE has released updates for its Workspaces, Applications, and Development Platform, the fourth in a series of monthly stabilization updates to the 4.6 series. 4.6.5 updates bring many bugfixes and translation updates on top of the latest edition in the 4.6 series. These updates are recommended for everyone running 4.6.4 or earlier versions. As the release only contains bugfixes and translation updates, it will be a safe and pleasant update for everyone. KDE’s software is already translated into more than 55 languages, with more to come.

There is a wiki page for the 4.7 parties. If you want to organize something, please add it there soon and start getting the word out. The release is planned for Wednesday, July 27th. This is a great cause for celebration.

Randa Group Photo

In early June 2011, a sizable group of KDE hackers met high up in the Swiss Alps. In Randa, four co-located meetings took place to further KDE technologies. One of these groups, Platform 11, had as its goal to take the KDE development platform to its next level. This group consisted of about 25 people who work on and around kdelibs, the build-system, distributions, and 3rd party developers, and was intended to represent needs and wishes as completely as possible, while trying to find better ways to organize the KDE development platform.
