KDE-PIM Hackers Present Integration of KDE 4 Frameworks

In the final presentation of the talk days at KDE's yearly world summit, Akademy 2008, the KDE-PIM hackers surprised the KDE community with a couple of announcements, covering nearly all aspects of PIM-related data handling. After demonstrating the Kontact suite on Windows and Mac OS during this year's LinuxTag, the KDE-PIM team continues to raise the bar for competitors on the enterprise desktop. KDE Commit-Digest for 6th July 2008

In this week's KDE Commit-Digest: Support for moving of applets in Plasma panels. Various work, such as autocompletion and bookmarks (shared with Konqueror) support in the basic Web Browser Plasmoid. Progress in the "Plasma on new form factors" project. A new "LCD Weather Station" Plasma applet makes an appearance. The Powersave and KWeather utilities are ported to Plasma.

In this week's KDE Commit-Digest: Work on a "Grid" containment for Plasmoids. A Plasma applet to monitor the WiFi signal strength (on Linux systems). Infrastructure in place for a network settings daemon in the NetworkManager Plasmoid. An Akonadi Plasma data engine, intended for initial use by a "Plasmobiff" applet. "Previewer", a new Plasmoid for previewing files using KParts technology.

In this week's KDE Commit-Digest: In a long-planned move, the FolderView Plasmoid also becomes a containment (which enables it to fill the desktop space). The FolderView Plasma applet gets standard folder interaction context menu items. First version of CommandWatch Plasmoid, which displays output of a given console command.


Alitheia Online Demo Available

The SQO-OSS project aims at developing a software quality assessment platform to Free Software developers. SQO-OSS is a project funded through the European Commission's Framework Programme 6 and consists of a number of European organisations with knowledge relevant to build such a platform, among which KDE e.V.. After more than one and a half years of research, design and development the SQO-OSS developer now have made available a first demo showing some capabilities of the Alitheia system.
